More than 400g of cannabis and a large sum of money was allegedly seized by police during a late night search near a remote community on Saturday.

Police said they intercepted a car carrying three men, 39, 56, 33, en route to Kalkarindji about 12.15am.

During a search of the vehicle police allegedly found $12,100, 460g of cannabis, digital scales, zip lock bags, and 30 litres of alcohol.
All three men were arrested and the 39-year-old was charged with the supply of a schedule 2 dangerous drug and the possession of a schedule 2 dangerous drug.

He was released on bail to appear in court on November 15.

The 56-year-old and 33-year-old were released pending further investigation.

Remote Sergeant David Van Der Merwe said the substances seized in the search “would have been destined for a number of communities in the area”.

“Illicit drugs cause substantial harm to our most vulnerable,” Remote Sergeant Van Der Merwe said.

“NT police will continue to disrupt and prosecute anyone who attempts to supply restricted substances into our community.”

It comes just weeks after a police dog search dug up 1600 bags of cannabis in an East Arnhem community.

A large bag wrapped in black tape was found to be concealing about 1.6kg of the illicit substance.

Police arrested a 21-year-old at the scene who was then charged with supply a commercial quantity of a schedule 2 drug, possessing a commercial quantity of a schedule 2 drug and administering a dangerous drug to self.
