Bishop Druitt College is the top performing (Year 9) secondary school on the Coffs Coast, according to the past five years of NAPLAN testing.

An independent analysis of five years of NAPLAN results has revealed the Coffs Coast schools which consistently performed the best in the Year 5 and Year 9 tests between 2017 and 2021.

Over that five-year period, Coffs Harbour Christian Community School, in Bonville, had higher Year 5 yearly results than any other school in the Coffs Coast, scoring an average of 2570.3 each year.

Bishop Druitt College in Coffs Harbour was the second best for the region with an average score of 2569.5, while Casuarina Steiner School in Coffs Harbour was the third best with an average score of 2562.7.

The top performing Year 9 school was Bishop Druitt College, in Coffs Harbour, where the average yearly result was 2965.0 over the five years.

Coffs Harbour Christian Community School in Bonville was the second best for the region with an average score of 2955.75, while St John Paul College in Coffs Harbour was the third best with an average score of 2904.5.

Bishop Druitt principal Nick Johnstone was delighted with the results, and credited the success to a number of programs operating across the year groups.

“Our growth over the last five years is very pleasing,” Mr Johnstone said. “Our Year 3 and Year 9 data was outstanding - and probably the best Year 3 numbers we’ve ever had.”

He said Bishop Druitt had embedded a number of literacy and numeracy practises, while programs in place for Kindergarten to Year 3 showed “we’re on the right track”.

Nationally, to determine how each school performed between 2017 and 2021, their average scores for each year were combined and the yearly average found.

Special schools, schools with fewer than 20 students enrolled in either year, and schools that did not report any results for NAPLAN subjects in either year were excluded from the analysis.

The figures were independently compiled from the federal government’s MySchool website.
