St George Sutherland Shire NAPLAN results: St George Girls, Caringbah top rated high schools

St George Girls and Caringbah high schools have taken out the top spots in the St George and Sutherland Shire areas for NAPLAN results.

An independent analysis of newly-released 2022 NAPLAN results has revealed the schools which performed the best in year 5 and year 9 tests.

At primary school level, Hurstville and Sutherland public schools topped the results.

The second top performing secondary school in the south west Sydney region was St George Girls High School with an average 2022 result of 685.2, which was first for the St George area.

Selective Caringbah High School came third overall in the south west Sydney region with an average score of 680.6, and first in the Sutherland Shire region.

Within the south west region, Sydney Technical High School came in fifth with an average result of 675.4 and then Southern Cross Baptist Church Christian School with an average of 651.4 came in at number six.

St George Christian School got an average of 629.6 scoring a result of number nine, which rounded out the top five highest performers in the St George and Sutherland Shire areas.

St George Girls’ High School is a female single sex selective high school located in Kogarah with their “brother” school being Sydney Technical High School, which is an all-male selective school, in Bexley.

Although St George Girls High School is an all-girls school, Sydney Technical High School is often referred to as their male counterpart

Across St George, the top three primary schools were Hurstville Public School with an average result of 569.20 followed by St St George Christian School with 561.6 and St Raphael’s Catholic Primary School on 554.4.

Sutherland Public School had an average result of 564.4, second was St Aloysius Catholic Primary School in Cronulla with 563.2 followed by Caringbah North Public School with a result of 543.6.

Sutherland Public School has being named one of the top-performing NAPLAN schools for Year 5 between 2017 and 2021 and now into 2022. In picture Principal Leah Woolley and former school captains Elsha Sabapathy and Caleb Day.

To determine how each school performed in 2022, the scores for all five test subjects for the student cohort (years 5 and 9) were combined and the average found.

Special schools, schools with fewer than 20 students enrolled and schools that did not report any results for NAPLAN subjects were excluded from the analysis.

The figures were independently compiled from the Federal Government’s MySchool website.
