Three Tumby Bay best friends unexpectedly give birth to daughters on the same day

This trio of best friends were shocked to discover they were all pregnant – but never imagined their baby girls would arrive like this!

Three best friends giving birth to daughters on the same day in a country town sounds like a movie plot but for these South Australian mums it’s real life.

Less than 3000 people call Tumby Bay home but three of its newest residents all arrived on December 18 much to the surprise of their mums.

Hannah Allen, 21, Jacqui Hockaday, 41, and Renae Birkin, 27 will be side-by-side as girls Saylor Webb, Ocean Rose and Quinn Ivy start reception together in 2029 and graduate high school in 2041.

Ms Allen and her partner Morris Webb were in shock when they saw the second line appear on their pregnancy test.

“My partner and I have been together since we were very young, I think I was about 14 years old when we met, so we’ve known each other for a long time,” she said.

“I was one day late for my period and my partner immediately got the feeling that I was pregnant although I didn’t think much of it.

“Eventually we both agreed to go out and buy the test and when we saw that second line come up, we were so shocked.

“We were so happy but a bit apprehensive so we actually didn’t tell anyone at first.”

But Ms Allen wasn’t the only one keeping a secret.

Just days apart her friends Ms Hockaday and Ms Birkin had also found out they were expecting but were keeping the news under wraps until they reached the three-month mark.

For Ms Hockaday and her partner their third child Ocean was a surprise after she “let her hair down” after a wild hens night out.

Ms Birkin, on the other hand, had been trying for a baby.

The trio all carried their daughters to term but with no delivery unit in their home town each had to travel to different hospitals to give birth on December 18.

Unbeknown to each other Ms Allen was labouring at Flinders Medical Centre while Ms Birkin was at Adelaide’s Women’s and Children’s Hospital and Ms Hockaday at the nearest birthing unit in Port Lincoln.

It was not until the end of the day that they discovered all three girls would share a birthday for life.

“We found out only at the end of the day after we all gave birth and were on our phones texting each other,” Ms Birkin said.

“It was quite funny and a bit shocking to learn all of us girls gave birth to girls on the same day.”

Ms Hockaday is already thinking ahead and is excitedly imagining the Tumby triplets’ future together.

“I mean, the three mothers are friends so our girls need to be friends otherwise something is wrong with them,” Ms Hockaday said with a laugh.

“But I’m just super excited to see the girls celebrate their first birthday together – since obviously they will have joint birthdays for life – and then see them go into their first day of kindergarten together.”

Baby Saylor is a finalist in the Advertiser’s Cutest Summer Baby Competition, voting is open until 8am on Thursday, March 21.

Among the other competitors is Lily Ahearn – a miracle baby for Daniella who lost her first daughter Grace and then her long term relationship before becoming a solo mum by choice.

There is also Evanston Park baby Luca and his mum Jazmyn McGee who had a “perfect” twin pregnancy before her epidural didn’t work leaving her to feel every cut the doctors made until her heart failed.

And “miracle” Loxton baby Zedikai Isiah-Aaron Mesecke who helped fill the hole left behind after his uncle was killed in a hit-run.
