Mum shares 'genius' solution to common supermarket problem

When we’re lucky enough to find markdowns in supermarkets, our first instinct is usually to grab as much as we can to save some cash.

After all, times are tough, and our grocery bills only seem to be climbing.

But one mum took a different approach when faced with shelves full of discounts in Coles.

The selfless supermarket act

Instead of taking everything for her (although she made sure to grab a few goodies for herself), she picked up all the discounted baby clothes to donate to a local charity organisation.

Taking to the Markdown Addicts Facebook Page, the Aussie mum from Phillip Island shared: “Coles had all the bargains today. I took a bit of everything but took all the Bonds for our local community house. 💘”

She then shared photos of her haul, which included 10 Bonds Wondersits, typically $29 but discounted to just $1 each.

The mum also snagged Marine Collagen Peptides, usually $10 for just $1, and Sakatas for 50 cents, as well as bread, cordial and cat food.

"I said when things were easier, I'd donate back"

In the comments, people praised the mum for her selfless act, with one woman admitting: “That’s lovely! I hate that I would never think to buy those clothes cheaply and donate them! I would simply think, ‘I don’t need them!’”

Then the author of the post replied: “I recently used a service run by volunteers, I said when things were easier, I’d repay/donate back.”

“That’s very kind of you to donate all of those baby clothes!” someone else praised.

“This is amazing! Well done you,” a different user replied.

“I’m pregnant and that’s such a bargain!” one mum-to-be added.

Another woman shared: “I was lucky enough to get some dummies well under half price, and they will go to Baby Give Back for families escaping awful situations! Glad you had the love in your heart.”
