A simple retro technique for curling wet hair with a T-shirt has gone viral on TikTok with users rushing to get the noughties look.

A retro hair curling technique has gone viral on TikTok.

The Curly Girl method, which was popularised in the early 2000s, involves using a T-shirt on wet hair to bring out your hair’s natural curl.

TikTok users described the simple method of brushing their wet hair in the shower, before applying a moisturising curl enhancing product while the hair is damp.

You then dab and scrunch your hair with a T-shirt, before tying it into a tight turban on your head to dry.

The results are going viral, with some women’s straight hair turning curly within an hour. Others said it’s made their already curly hair glossier and their ringlets tighter.

This TikTok user said the method transformed her hair in a week.

She said her hair felt healthier and was shinier.

TikTok user Linzyrosee said it changed her hair miraculously in “one week”.

“I thought this was what my hair was supposed to look like, but this is what it looks like now, one week after I started the curly girl method,” Linzyrosee said, adding her hair looks so much more healthy and shiny. Her post has attracted more than 365,000 likes.

Another TikTok user, hairdresser RomyxSara shared a video of her trying the method on a client with straight hair, who was left with stunning curly results in one session.

She was left with big bombshell hair after using the method.

The method she tried included using no silicones, no sulfates, no alcohols and “no cotton”.

Curl lovers trying the curly girl method are also encouraged to shun drying chemicals, and some types of shampoos, and instead try cleansing their hair with conditioner.

The method also encourages ditching a regular hair dryer and opting for a more gentle diffuser.

The overall goal of the method is to enhance your natural curls by moisturising the hair cuticle.
