Mother-in-law roasted for her ‘off-white’ dress choice for her son’s wedding

“Someone might need glasses ... wearing that dress is a slap at your son's wife,” says a puzzled person.

What not to do at a wedding

Wearing white to someone’s wedding is famously an unforgivable offence.

Considered by many as rude and attention-seeking, it’s often classified as one of the more disrespectful outfit choices to make at a happy event.

This is especially true if you are related to one of the bridal parties, as accusations may start to fly about your true feelings towards the bride

Well, it seems one mother-in-law didn’t get the memo and has been blasted online for it.

“Don’t worry guys, it’s off-white!”

While scrolling through Facebook Marketplace, someone spotted the woman’s listing for a dress.

“Beautiful off-white dress, worn once at my son’s wedding,” the caption for the listing read, which was uploaded to Reddit

The woman stood on the beach in the flowing midi dress with a drop waist and floral detailing.

And while she doesn’t exactly look like the bride, it was certainly a bold choice to make, considering her son is the one getting married.

“Don't worry guys, it's ‘off white’,” the Reddit user sarcastically captioned the post.

“That dress is literally whiter than the seafoam”

A debate quickly ensued in the Reddit community, with some arguing the mother-in-law was deliberately trying to upstage the bride on her special day.

“Wearing that dress is a slap at your son's wife,” read a comment. “I’ve seen so many mums being so weird with their sons - like dressing as the bride at his wedding,” another said, wondering when “mothers of adult sons became so creepy.”

“I don't know WTF goes on in some people's heads with wanting to dress like brides,” a woman commented. “It's like they're determined to drive the fashion car off the cliff of appropriateness and roast marshmallows in the resulting explosion.”

Others were puzzled why she had to specify the location where she wore the dress. “Why even mention it was worn to a wedding?” a person asked. “Just put worn once”

But it was the hilarious colour description that really had people in stitches. The dress is “literally whiter than the seafoam,” someone laughed.

“It's off-white, and she's off her rocker.”

“Someone might need glasses…it's definitely white,” another noted, adding the mum “needs to think about someone other than herself.”

Despite the barrage of comments tearing the MIL apart fo there wedding attire, others weren’t so quick to judge.

Some argued it wasn’t unusual for people to wear white to a beach wedding, even if the bride is also in the same colour. “This doesn’t seem to be out [of] the norm,” wrote a supporter. “I’ve seen a lot of everyone wear white to a beach wedding.”

“Honestly, this doesn’t seem as bad to me,” another agreed. “A lot of beach-themed weddings, the couple asks everyone to wear white.”
