‘He locked himself in the bathroom while the dog attacked his mum’

A six-year-old boy and two-month-old baby girl have miraculously escaped unscathed after the family pit bull savagely mauled their mum and uncle at an Adelaide home on Tuesday.

A six-year-old boy and a two-month-old baby girl have miraculously escaped unharmed after a pit bull savagely attacked the boy’s mum in a Brompton home in Adelaide’s inner north on Tuesday.

Emergency services were faced with a horrific scene when they arrived at the Bligh Street home at 8:30pm.

Blood was smeared on the walls, a little boy was locked in the bathroom and a woman with series injuries and bite marks was holding back a dog that was closed in a bedroom.

The woman and her brother were rushed to hospital with injuries to their hands and upper arms that required surgery.

The woman’s mother explained that although the little boy managed to escape the attack by locking himself in the bathroom, he was terrified for his mum.

“All he was doing was just screaming because of his mum,” she told 9News.

“He was that frightened he wanted big cuddles from his mum because mum cuddles him every night.”

According to the victim's mum, the dog had dragged the woman around the room.

“She was on the ground here and [the dog’s] teeth were into her arm.”

Woman and man attacked by family pit bull

The Shar-Pei-pit bull cross had been in the family for eight years before it attacked the owner’s sister and brother.

“It was horrible,” the woman’s mother said, describing the way the dog attacked the woman.

“Her eyes were rolling the back of her head and I was just screaming.”

It’s understood that one of the family was able to pour boiling water on the dog, which gave them the upper hand to lock the dog in a bedroom.

“My daughter had to hold onto the door so that he couldn’t come out but he had his teeth ripping at the door, trying to open it.

“He’s that strong. He’s lucky he never got that door open.”

Dog to be put down after attacking family

On Wednesday, the owner of the dog said that it would be put down on Thursday.

“I don’t want to have the dog in my life ever again,” the woman’s mum said before the animal was destroyed.

“The dog was impounded by CCS Community Safety After Hours Contractors, under the direction of our Senior Community Safety Officer,” a spokesperson for the Charles Sturt Council told Adelaide Now.
