Man and woman rushed to Royal Adelaide Hospital after pet dog turns on them in attack at Brompton home

Two young children were inside a Brompton home when a pit bull-cross attacked a man and woman, leaving them with serious injuries.

A two-month-old baby and six-year-old boy were home when a pet dog attacked its owners during a terrifying ordeal.

A man and woman were taken to hospital after their pit bull-cross attacked them at a Brompton home.

Emergency services were called to Blight St about 8.30pm Tuesday night after reports of a dog attack.

A woman suffered serious injuries and a male suffered minor injuries.

SA Ambulance Service said both were transported to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with hand and upper arm injuries, which reportedly required surgery.

The woman’s mother said the six-year-old boy was locked in the bathroom while his mother was attacked.

“All he was doing was just screaming because of his mum,” she told 9News.

“He was that frightened he wanted big cuddles from his mum because his mum cuddles him every night.

“She was on the ground here and his teeth were into her arm.”

The family have reportedly owned the Shar-Pei cross pit bull for eight years before it attacked its owner’s sister and her brother, who are reportedly aged 39 and 42.

Footage from inside the home shows blood smeared across the floor and walls.

“She got dragged around by the dog,” the woman’s mother said.

“It was horrible.

“Her eyes were rolling in the back of her head and I was just screaming.”

The victim’s mother said hot water was poured on the dog to stop the attack before the pit bull-cross was locked in a bedroom.

“My daughter had to hold onto the door so that he couldn’t come out but he had his teeth ripping at the door trying to open it,” the woman’s mother said.

“He’s that strong.

“He’s lucky he never got the door open.”

The victim’s mother said she wanted the dog put down.

“I don’t want to have the dog in my life ever again,” she said.

The dog’s owner said it would be put down on Thursday, 9News reported.

A Charles Sturt Council spokeswoman said the council was investigating the attack.

“The dog was impounded by CCS Community Safety After Hours Contractors, under the direction of our Senior Community Safety Officer,” she said.

“We will investigate the attack today, contacting the owner and all parties involved, and will continue to hold the dog until a determination has been made.”
