In a now-viral post shared in the MECCA Chit Chat Facebook group, a resourceful mum and professional makeup artist has taken DIY to a whole new level, transforming her skincare-obsessed tween’s room into the ultimate beauty haven.

The Noosa mum, Lara, decided to upcycle the mounds of Mecca bags she and her daughter had collected over the years and turn them into a striking feature wall.

The amazing Mecca feature wall

“So here's a feature wall I did for my 13-year-old 🥰,” she wrote alongside the photos, before joking, “I could pretty much wallpaper the whole house if I had time lol. #repurposing.”

The transformation is nothing short of impressive, with tens of bags with different artworks on them fastened to the wall.

In the middle of the wall, Lara set up her daughter’s makeup dresser, complete with a mirror and ring light and some of her favourite products from Sol de Janeiro, Drunk Elephant and Naked Sundays.

Lara said the project was simple and easy to recreate, as she just used tacks to attach the bags to the wall.

"Very different!"

The Facebook community was quick to praise the mum, with many calling on Mecca to recognise her efforts.

"If you don’t get a gift card or something from Mecca for how amazing this is, I’ll be pissed," one user exclaimed.

Others chimed in, calling the project "absolutely incredible," "very different," and "so fun!!!"

Then many commenters shared their intent to replicate the idea, with one saying, “This is amazing! I have a whole bunch of designer paper store bags that I could do this with!"

"Huge props for your creativity! I love how you are respecting the artwork and going to the next level for an art installation," another group member concluded.

When people questioned how she amassed such a collection of Mecca bags, the mum jokingly responded, "I have a tween daughter."

Project Mecca wall art installation

Kidspot spoke to Lara to find out more about the project.

"I cut the bags in half, so there were about 65 -70 bags of varying sizes. It was done progressively over three days," she revealed.

"I used ball head pins/push pins to put them up. It was my idea after she got a million MECCA presents for her 13th bday, I made a joke saying, 'You could literally wallpaper your room with all of these bags.'

"The idea never left me, and I then pulled out all of my bags from the past few years to begin 'Project MECCA wall art installation.'

"I have been a makeup artist for many years so I spend quite a bit at MECCA for my kit. I do buy products for my daughter too, but she has acquired many of the bags as packaging for gifts she has received over the past few years. She now has a great collection of age-appropriate skincare, sunscreen, makeup, fragrances and brushes."
