Kmart shoppers confused after spotting a coffin in new collection

"At Kmart, you'll always find low prices for life," the budget retailer captioned the announcement.

'OMG': Inside Kmart 'store of the future'

Kmart just added a whole new meaning to the phrase 'shop 'till you drop' with their latest addition to their aisles - a plywood coffin.

Aussie shoppers were left scratching their heads after they saw a Facebook post from the budget retailer advertising them for a mere $4.

The brand added the cheeky caption: "At Kmart, you'll always find low prices for life."

Kmart now sell cheap coffins

Safe to say, the internet lost their minds over it.

Taking to the Facebook group Kmart Hacks, Ashleigh Bennett wrote: "Love you Kmart, but please chill," alongside a print screen of the Facebook advertisement.

Comments quickly began rolling in. "Wow, Kmart," one person stated.

"They saw a gap in the market, I guess," someone else said. But someone replied, "You know Costco already sell these right?"

"KMART SELLS COFFINS?!!!" another shocked user wrote. "Budget till I die," they added.

Turns out there's a very good explanation

But then other shoppers promptly let everyone know it was actually part of Kmart's new Halloween merchandise.

Even on their website, Kmart wrote: "Customise this coffin to add a spooky touch to your Halloween celebrations this year."

"Calm down folks, this is a decoration for Halloween," said one commenter.

Another wrote, "Just checked the website, the dimensions are 11.2cm (L) x 25.3cm (H) x 7.5cm (D) - wouldn't even fit a Barbie doll."

"This is in the craft section, got two the other week for the kids," a different customer shared.

"Tbh, I'm kinda sad they're not life-size. Wouldn't have been the worst idea - coffins are expensive!" shared another.

So hold onto your eulogies people – turns out, Kmart isn't dipping into the afterlife market after all.

Kmart, you sly dogs, you nearly fooled us too!

People shared their plans to get crafty with the coffins

Now with the confusion out of the way, people began sharing how they planned to use the coffin.

"I need this, now I just need a tiny skeleton to put in it," wrote one user.

A different woman wrote, "I want to bedazzle it in jewels."

"I want to have a paint and sip night and paint these," concluded another.

"Definitely turning mine into a jewellery box," chimed in a different commenter.

Then one particular morbid comment showed how a woman used her tiny coffin to store her vapes, 'cos, you know, vapes will kill you... etc. She added, "Also if my teens touch them, I'll kill them! So double meaning lol!"
