'I was mortified': Shopper finds 'disgusting' soiled item for sale at Kmart

"That's either lazy, greedy or stupid," someone wrote about the item that had only been discounted by $3.

How to stop impulse buying at Target, Kmart and Big W

An Aussie shopper has called out Kmart after she made a 'disgusting' find in one of their stores.

The woman, Belinda, took to the Kmart Hacks and Decor Facebook page to share the photos that left her 'mortified'.

Other shoppers have now banded together, calling for the budget retailer to ditch one of its clothing policies that allows staff to discount items that are damaged.

The stained pajamas were only half-price

"Mortified by this for sale in our local Kmart, 😲" Belinda wrote alongside photos of a soiled pair of pyjama pants she found inside the Rosny, Tasmania store.

There appears to be a large, dark-red stain near the crotch of the pants.

In one of the photos, Belinda turned the pants inside out to show that the stain was on the inside as well.

A form had then been attached to the item, informing shoppers that the PJs had been reduced to $3 down from $6 - meaning there was only a half-price discount for the soiled pants.

The form was for "Soiled/Damaged/Faulty Merchandise" and stated the reason for the markdown as "Stain on front centre."

"Do they really need that $3?

The post has now racked up nearly 800 reactions and 400 comments, with fellow shoppers equally as revolted at the find.

"Ewwww, that should have been put in the bin immediately," one person said.

"So disgusting and unhygienic," wrote another, while someone added, "That's either lazy, greedy or stupid."

"Do they really need that $3?" another member pointed out. "Seems like a weird policy."

"Someone's definitely had an accident"

Then people started theorising what the stain was.

"Looks like someone spilt something on it while browsing," one person suggested. "Maybe hot chocolate."

"Some kind of red soft drink, perhaps? Or a Slurpee?" posed another.

This woman pointed out, "The colour... the positioning, someone's definitely had an accident."

"100% that's bodily fluid," claimed someone else.

"I reckon someone's had some leakage so ditched the pants in the changerooms," guessed another commenter.

Kmart responds: "Against store procedures"

A Kmart spokesperson told Kidspot: "Clearly, the item in the picture should not be on sale.

"We are looking into how this took place, as selling an item in this state is against our store procedures and standards at Kmart."
