Rebel hated talking about sex

The truth was, Rebel was a virgin up until the age of 35. She wasn't sure how she could contribute to the topic without sharing what was actually happening behind closed doors. And without getting embarrassed to admit it.

“Normally I would just leave the room when the conversation was happening,” the now 44-year-old shared with People magazine ahead of the release of her memoir Rebel Rising.

At one point, she even lied to her best friend just to stop everyone asking.

“And then the people that said, ‘Oh, at 24, it’s so late.’ And then I’m sitting here thinking, ‘Oh my God, my number’s 35.’ What the hell? I’m going to look like the biggest loser.’”

Remove the stigma

By speaking out and sharing her story, Rebel hopes to remove the stigma around people losing their virginity late in life.

The idea of losing your virginity as a grown adult is something that is often made fun of in society - and in comedy films even Rebel has admired such as Steve Carell's The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

Now hoping to remove the topic from the 'funny' narrative, the Pitch Perfect star admits it's "nothing to be ashamed of" if you didn't lose your virginity as a teenager.

“People can wait till they’re ready or wait till they’re a bit more mature,” she says.

“And I think that could be a positive message. You obviously don’t have to wait until you’re in your thirties like me, but you shouldn’t feel pressure as a young person.”

Rebel always wanted to be a mum

Now engaged to fashion designer Ramona Agruma and mum to her almost two-year-old, Royce, Rebel is enjoying that sweet family life she has been dreaming about.

Back in 2021, the actress shared a cryptic message about her fertility struggles, which we now know led her to welcoming her first born via a surrogate.

At the time, Rebel shared a black and white photo of herself by the sea with a sad message.

“I got some bad news today and didn’t have anyone to share it with... but I guess I gotta tell someone,” she began.

“To all the women out there struggling with fertility, I feel ya. The universe works in mysterious ways and sometimes it all doesn’t make sense...but I hope there’s light about to shine through all the dark clouds.”

While she didn’t elaborate on exactly what the ‘bad’ news was, many fans came flooding in with messages of support.
