Aussies fume over 'grubby' act by delivery drivers

A supermarket driver has come under fire after CCTV footage was released of him "delivering" an online order. And it's more common than we think.

Delivery driver sparks outrage by tossing groceries on porch

A supermarket delivery driver has come under fire after CCTV footage was released showing him mishandling groceries upon dropping them off at an Aussie home.

However, the social media post has sparked a broader conversation around the behaviour of delivery drivers - and commenters have their thoughts.

The shocking footage

A Reddit user took to the platform this week with a video of a delivery driver dropping off their grocery shop in a careless manner, joking that he’s an ‘ex-baggage handler’.

“This grub bruised our fruit and busted a 2L milk,” they said in the post.

“I didn’t get his first throw on camera but it was a big one based on the bang I heard from 3 rooms away. Something like this seems to happen every time we use a partner driver.”

Though the post was put up in a Woolworths subreddit, with Woolworths bags shown, the poster specified that the delivery driver was a partner driver - meaning they’re not affiliated with Woolworths, and instead work for a platform like Uber, DoorDash or similar.

“Hope there aren’t any eggs in those bags…”

Commenters on the post were shocked and appalled by the footage, with some sharing similar experiences.

“He saved a whole what 5 seconds by not putting them down normally and throwing them instead?” one commenter said.

“😱 hope there aren’t any eggs in those bags…” said another.

“There is zero reason for this to be delivered like this,” a third agreed.

“WOW 🤯 Some humans are just soooo disappointing 😞” another said.

“I've had someone doing this turn up like two hours after they were supposed to and then take the groceries to the wrong house!” said one commenter.

Should've stuck with Woolies!

Others assured that in the future, you might be better off going with Woolworths directly.

“In this case, Woolies haven't hired anyone. That's a third party (read: Uber, Doordash, Yellow, Sherpa etc) who's picked your order up from a store. Woolies often do this for stores that do not do trucks for home delivery,” one person said.

“To avoid this, pick a three-hour window that doesn't say "Partner Driver". Anyone who is not a partner driver is hired by Woolies, and Woolies can give direct feedback to truck drivers.”

“Using partner delivery should always be your last resort - try and get an actual scheduled woolies truck delivery if possible,” another agreed.

“Never use the partner delivery option, they simply don’t care,” said a third.

In a statement to Kidspot, Woolworths said they encourage anyone with concerns to contact them.

“We are very disappointed to see this customer’s online order delivered like this," the spokesperson said.

“We have since been in contact with the customer and provided a refund for the damaged products.

“If customers are ever unhappy with their experience, we’d encourage them to contact our Customer Hub”.
