Aussies are shocked at these 'insanely specific' businesses

But, what's more surprising is just how useful they really are. Especially for parents.

A Melbourne local has kickstarted a discourse on Reddit, uncovering unique and weirdly specific businesses in the area.

But, what’s perhaps more surprising is how useful these businesses really are.

How specific can it get?

This week, the poster took to Reddit to share their unique spotting - Lilies Pram Cleaning, a business exclusively offering cleaning services for prams and car seats.

“I saw a van advertising pram cleaning yesterday,” the post began.

But, it started a conversation around what other hyper-specific businesses are out there.

“[I] wondered what other insanely specific businesses are out there,” they said.

There are more out there than you might think

Reddit users were quick to come to the party with their unique business sightings.

“I once saw a Jim's chewing gum removal so I'd say that,” one commenter said.

“They’ve diversified their services now, but you can hire tea towels from Just Teatowels.” said another.

“I actually have the answer to this question, also child related: the dummy fairy. She comes to your house to take your child’s dummies away when parents need to ween the kids off them. She’s not a kid’s entertainer, she’s the dummy fairy.” another said.

"I met a business owner that would take the unsorted coat hangers from dept stores and send them to China for sorting and return them. Pretty specific lol," one commenter said.

“I love this!”

But, just as many went in to bat for these businesses, saying that as bizarre as they may sound, they’re definitely necessary.

“Machines for removing chewing gum from footpaths are very specialised kit. It's heat and steam and water and detergents and three different types of scrubbing brush and vacuuming. I'm not saying you need a post-graduate degree to operate one, but if you owned one you deserve a good income.” one said about Jim's Chewing Gum Removal.

“They supply commercial kitchens, not that weird. Even a small kitchen will go through 50-100 tea towels p/w. JT and Alsco are the biggest ones but there's heaps more,” a commenter said about Just Teatowels.

“I don't have kids, but I love this!” someone said about The Dummy Fairy.

"I’m assuming they actually added more value than just sorting, like removing or repairing broken or bent hangers, clips and size tags, etc. It’s more of a recycling company at that point." someone noted about the coat hanger sorting business.

A few people even vouched for Lilies Pram Cleaning.

“My daughter is a single mum and received a pram that had been cleaned specifically from this company. The pram looked practically brand new. Great service.” one commenter said.

“You laugh, but high chance everyone will need a Lilie’s in their lifetime. Think baby vomiting, and a pram coming back steam cleaned. Some prams are the price of a small car lol.” said another.

“I saw this and gasped. I would love this! Our pram is disgusting from toddler finger food, dirt and sand from the playground, sunscreen stains.” echoed a third.
