Aldi shoppers spot new $6 item in supermarket’s cult cheese range

Shoppers are raving about a new French cheese on Aldi shelves that tastes “delicious” and is far cheaper than similar blocks at other supermarkets.

Best day to shop at Aldi

Aldi is known for having fan-favourite products – but there’s one item in particular that has earned cult status with shoppers.

The budget retailer is loved for selling affordable French cheese that can be costly when purchased at other supermarkets and boutique delis.

Its cult-status as cheap fromage seller began back in 2018 when the German supermarket began selling Le Pave – a creamy soft cheese compared to expensive dairy brand D’Affinois – for just $6.

News of the dairy delight quickly spread and soon the 200g packets of “impossibly creamy goodness” were no where in sight.

Fast forward a few years and Le Pave is now a regular on Aldi shelves (though it always appears in limited runs), with the supermarket growing its French cheese offerings due to popularity.

A fanpage shared a photo of a new cheese, revealing it is called L’Ovale and also priced at $5.99.

“Is this the new Le Pave?” Aldi Lovers Australia asked.

“Who has tried this one? How does it compare?”

Response to the post, shared on Facebook and Instagram, has been huge – with many stating Aldi’s new French cheese variation was “incredible”.

“This is delicious! Loved it!” one commented.

“OMG I love this cheese,” another said,

As others said it was “amazing” and wrote it was “so creamy”.

“Prefer it over Le Pave,” one stated.

Many said it was good, but not good enough to overtake the La Pave in popularity.

“I love it. It will never replace my much loved Le Pave but it will do nicely for now,” one woman said.

“Yum, but it’s definitely no Le Pave!” another agreed.

L’Ovale, which is available to buy in 300g tubs, featured in a December Aldi catalogue with no mention of it being a limited item.

Aldi Australia said it was thrilled to hear shoppers love the new French cheese addition.

“This is a delicate soft cheese that we have introduced to our everyday range, produced in the rolling hills of France’s Limousin region, by a family that has been making this authentic style for generations,” a spokesperson told news.com.au.

“It is a cow’s milk cheese that’s has been made using the highest quality natural ingredients. It’s simply exceptional quality at a really exceptional price.”

Last year the store introduced Le Pico, a goat’s cheese priced at $5.99, and hailed by fans as “amazing”.
