ALDI shopper's 'disturbing' surprise in $4.99 dinner meal kit

If you look closely enough, you can see exactly how this happened. 👀🤢

Smashed taco sandwiches

When you buy a taco kit, you expect a few things to be inside — taco shells, sauce and usually a spice mix.

What you don't expect, however, is to be greeted with a violent-looking mould covering your tacos.

But unfortunately, that's exactly what one ALDI customer was blessed with this week after she bought a Mexican meal kit from her local store.

The dinner 'surprise'

Taking to an ALDI Facebook page to express her outrage, the shopper said that she had opened the El Tora Crispy Chicken Soft Taco kit to make dinner for her family, only to find the tortillas covered in a dark green mould.

"Just opened our taco kit to make dinner and came across these wraps. Best before date 2/11/24 🤮," she said.

The post quickly went viral, as other ALDI fans chimed in with their thoughts.

"That really sucks"

"I will be checking mine tonight before cooking the meat! How unpleasant," one commenter wrote.

Another sympathetic user tried to lighten the mood, saying: "Ohh extra penicillin, you should be right for winter."

"I can hear all the cupboards opening to check their taco boxes," someone else joked.

"That really sucks, especially if you have already prepared the meat to go with it," someone else pointed out.

"All well and good, you can get a refund, but it doesn't help the fact that you're ready to serve. That's a shame," another said.

Others said it's an issue they've experienced, too, and not just at ALDI.

"Ugh! I’ve had that happen to me twice with wraps from Coles. Put me off them for weeks!" someone wrote.

"I’ve had this with old El Paso brand too," another shared.

Then, some eagle-eyed commenters suggested that the cause of the mould infestation was a tiny hole in the plastic packaging that was encasing the tortillas.

"I can see a tiny hole in the bag in the top corner where the mould predominantly is. This can happen with any brand from any supermarket. Take it back for a refund," one said.

Another wrote: "The tortilla bag wasn’t sealed properly, you can see where in the pic."

An ALDI spokesperson told Kidspot: “ALDI has stringent quality standards and so we encourage any customer to feedback to ALDI directly via the help centre, so we can investigate all allegations of a product not meeting expectations.”
