Jojo Siwa has finally responded to her ex Kath Ebbs’ very civil response to being dumped after watching their partner flirt with someone else on TV.
Jojo Siwa has finally opened up about her breakup with Kath Ebbs, saying she didn't plan to end things at the Big Brother afterparty.
"Initially, I was told that the wrap party was something they didn’t want to attend and then about an hour into the wrap party they decided they wanted to. And so I was genuinely just going to have a conversation before and then it just led to another”, she said during an interview on This Morning.
After explaining she'd realised in her first few days on the show that she wanted to "fix things" in her life, the singer said Ebbs asked her if she was happy in the relationship, prompting her to say she hadn't been.
Then asked about her relationship with Chris Hughes, she told the hosts, "yeah obviously we're close, obviously we're tight" before the pair dubbed their connection "platonic".
If you told us a year ago that Dance Moms star Jojo Siwa had dated Australian content creator Kath Ebbs, appeared on Big Brother UK and sparked cheating rumours with Little Mix's Jesy Nelson's ex-boyfriend Chris Hughes, we wouldn't have believed you.
After seeing countless videos of Siwa and ex-Love Island star Hughes cuddling, giving each other back scratches, dancing, and flirting throughout the newest season of Big Brother UK, we all wondered how the partner she kept gushing over would be feeling back home.
While we’d all rush to comfort our friend when they're going through a brutal breakup, Abbie Chatfield went one step further and explained in a ten-minute video exactly why the singer’s behaviour was more than her being a bad girl doing some bad things.
What happened between Kath Ebbs, Jojo Siwa and Chris Hughes?
Ebbs and Siwa were first linked in November, and the Aussie content creator moved to LA to live with the star in January. We've seen the pair gush over each other ever since.
Siwa joined this season of Big Brother UK, and despite regularly talking about how much she loved her partnership with Ebbs, was regularly seen getting very close to Hughes, though she told other housemates Ebbs “wouldn’t care” about her cuddling the man in bed.
Her partner stayed quiet despite constant comments from fans and trolls, but revealed in a now-deleted heartbreaking 12 and a half minute video that after flying to the UK to support Siwa once she left the show, the child star dumped them at the afterparty – while Hughes was in the next room.
Ebbs explained that they had received video messages from Siwa every day “in admiration of me and our love and our relationship” while watching Siwa and Hughes grow closer every episode.
They added that the 21-year-old had asked them to marry her before entering the house, leaving them feeling like they’d experienced a version of love bombing.
While fans have rallied around Ebbs, pointing out the emotional cheating and crossing of boundaries on international television, reality TV native Chatfield has pointed out that “the Kath and Jojo thing has missed a huge part of the conversation”.
‘Kath has been collateral damage’
Instead of simply pointing out that getting that close to someone else while your partner is at home is pretty cruel, Chatfield took the opportunity to highlight that Siwa has been in the public eye long enough to know the effect of her behaviour on her partner.
The FBoy island host said that while Siwa and Ebbs could determine their own boundaries, Siwa “is a career reality TV star” and a rage baiter.
“She’s aware of how media cycles work, and she’s completely aware of what stories media runs with. She’s aware of how the public react to things, and how to get the public enraged”, she said.
“Now I don’t think, I would hope that this wasn’t intentional from Jojo to get a headline… my issue is more that she wasn’t aware or cognisant of the potential ramifications for Kath – in this whole thing, Kath has been collateral damage”.
She explained that the Karma singer knew her partner would be watching the show, was aware of their actions and how they would be perceived, but also knew that her relationship with Hughes would be covered in international media and social media.
The 29-year-old said Siwa would then have been “aware that Kath would be getting trolled from that behaviour, and that is something that I find abhorrent”.
In a follow-up video, Chatfield called out people who were saying Ebbs is ‘immature’ for opening up about their experience, pointing out that Siwa made the scandal public, taking no action to hide her flirting while on the show.
She said, “Kath has never spoken publicly about any of their exes by name.”
“They’ve spoken about their experiences, but they don’t just out people randomly, this is not Kath’s M.O. – this is Jojo’s M.O. of making it a big f****** deal, making it public but getting as many views as possible, that is Jojo’s deal, not Kath’s”.
“I’m sorry to get angry, but I’m really over this whole idea that Kath is being attention seeking when all of you were looking for their attention, you were hounding them because of Jojo’s actions on international television”.
