Kathie John, 40, of Schofield, NSW, has been on dialysis for six years, and in the past year has required dialysis three times a week. She was on a cruise off the coast of Tasmania when she got a call to let her know a kidney had been found and she was next on the list. On Tuesday, Kathie was airlifted from the cruise ship by helicopter. She was flown to a Victorian airfield, then to Bankstown. She arrived at Westmead about 10pm on Tuesday where the transplant team was waiting to do surgery in the middle of the night. By Wednesday, she had a new kidney.
