PAULINI
Age: Shhhhh a woman is always only 21 …
Suburb: Sydney
What are you working on at the moment?
I have a few different projects coming up in the first half of this year. Paulini Sings the Music of James Bond & the ’60s with an eight-piece live band and vocal group, The Martinis,
has several dates where we will be appearing in Penrith, Wyong, Sutherland, and Norths Cammeray. Grab a ticket and come join in the 007 fun.
How would you describe yourself?
I always find this an interesting question because it allows one to look within and reflect. Once upon a time I am sure I answered this exact question by saying I’m down to earth, a simple girl not screaming from the rooftops for attention. But, today, I feel I lead with confidence and strength from within that has likely come to the surface through time within the industry and hindsight. I appreciate it more than ever when people react a certain way during live performances or find relatability when listening to music I have written.
How do you think others describe you?
To be honest, I try not to think about how others describe me when I am not around. It really serves no purpose to me or one’s mental health as you can never be 100 per cent sure if you aren’t in the room. What I do know for certain, is that in every circumstance I attempt to let all people know – who I come in to contact with – that I appreciate them and their contribution to assisting me in allowing me to be the singer, actor and performer that I am.
What is most important to you?
Without a doubt my family, we are extremely close. Music is a close second … my mum first realised I could sing when I was six years old. By the time I was 10, I confessed I wanted to be a singer.
What is the last thing you read, watched, ate, listened to?
Currently listening to Teddy Swims, he is a vibe. I haven’t done a lot of reading lately, however, I did read a show review a couple of days ago …
What has been the biggest obstacle you have overcome or hardest hurdle in your life?
I’m pretty sure everyone knows the answer to that. No need to re-live it.
If you had one wish, what would it be?
It would be to take more time to appreciate and be content in life. Over the past few years, I sadly lost my dad and a friend. The silver lining is remembering we only live once, so remember to live.
Tell us a secret. What is one thing people may not know about you?
I’m obsessed with my puppy, Rocky.
What has been your proudest moment?
Hmmm, there a few … I was pretty proud of myself when I won those ARIAs many years ago. Performing in front of Burt Bacharach is certainly up there.
What do you wish we could do more about?
I really enjoy being present and working with children and youth who are less fortunate. This helps bring me back down to earth.
If you had a superpower, what would it be?
Ha! To be invisible.
What is the kindest thing anyone has ever said to you?
That I am genuinely a kind person in real life.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? Why?
I would change that I allowed myself to worry so much about others’ opinions of me.
