Actress Tara Reid is opening up about one of her most infamous celebrity encounters, slamming the “really cruel” treatment she copped from actress and radio host Jenny McCarthy during a 2016 radio interview.

The pair’s live interview went south quickly when McCarthy kept asking Reid about plastic surgery, and not the Sharknado movie she was there to promote.

The interview veered towards thinly veiled passive aggression before Reid eventually stormed out:

McCarthy: “So you’re good and done not moving forward with plastic surgery?”

Reid: “No, I haven’t had any surgery for a while Jenny. I think I’ve made that clear, like, about 100 times. Maybe that’s because you only read the bad things, but I made that really clear for so many years, but read what you want to read. But it was really nice talking to you and really good luck with your show.”

McCarthy:So nice talking to you too. Good luck with Sharknado, and I hope you stay married. And I hope your knees get a little wobblier than they already are.

Reid: “My knees? Oh yeah, I hope your tits get even nicer – same guy who did mine right? I’ll always use your advice, you’re the best. Bye.”

McCarthy:Love you Tara. Good luck with Sharknado 18.”

Four years on, Reid admitted she still hates the interview, saying McCarthy was “really out of line”.

“(She) was really cruel and to be really that cruel for no reason. She had such a meanness and a cold heart in her,” Reid recalled to TooFab this week.

Many sided with Reid after the ugly stoush – after all, she was a guest on McCarthy’s radio show, there to chat about her new movie, rather than cop insults about her marriage and “wobbly knees”. Among her defenders as the clip went viral was comedian Amy Schumer, who accused McCarthy of “bullying” her guest.

“I’ve never met either of them, I don’t think. But why won’t you just be nice to each other? It really seemed like she was just bullying her,” Schumer said in an interview a week later.

“You know what it’s like, people come in and they’ll be like, ‘Hey can you not talk about this thing?’ And you’ll be like, ‘OK’ and sometimes you’ll f**k with them, but she didn’t need to do … I don’t know. I don’t know their deal at all, but what are you doing?

“I don’t know Jenny, I’ve never met her – I’m sure she can be charming when it behoves her. But be nice to other women, especially other women in this disgusting f***ing business, that’s all I can say,” Schumer said.

Reid said she was grateful to have a high-profile ally in her corner as the disastrous interview went viral.

She added: “I saw Amy Schumer stuck up for me and I thought that’s a cool girl. That was awesome, that made me feel good. After that, to think Amy Schumer stuck up for me was awesome, that was a good thing to come out of that one.”
