Following news of her engagement, Australian designers are clamouring to be the chosen one to dress Delta Goodrem for her big day.
The Aussie pop princess became engaged to boyfriend of seven years Matthew Copley, after he popped the question with a ring rumoured to be worth $123,000.
“My best friend asked me to marry him,” Goodrem posted to Instagram on Thursday night, sharing photos of the pair in Malta, where Copley popped the question.
And after more than two decades in the industry, and countless red carpet and stage appearances, Goodrem has worn designs by almost all our top brands.
However, she definitely has her favourites.
Among the brands Goodrem has chosen to wear over the years include Toni Maticevski, Mariam Seddiq and Abyss By Abby the label.
Interestingly some of her go-to brands, including Velani, Con Ilio, Antionette Fusillo, J’Aton Couture and Rachel Gilbert, are known for their bridal designs.
One designer, who did not want to be named, said she had no doubt Goodrem would opt for an Australian brand.
“Goodrem has always been great at supporting local labels,” they said.
“And I don’t see why she would look oversease for someone to create her dream wedding dress when she has access to literally all the top designers here in Australia.”
Velani founder and designer Nicky Apostolopoulos believes Goodrem will show her loyalty to the brands which have supported and created looks which have earned her spots on the best dressed list over the years.
“I personally think she might choose a few of us to dress her,” Apostolopoulos told Sunday Confidential.
“She works very closely with a few of us.
“Delta would often message me and says if she needs something. She knows I am the master of whipping up something last minute.”
Apostolopoulos said she has been dreaming of Goodrem’s dress since she learned of her engagement this week.
“I have goosebumps thinking about it,” she said.
“Delta knows exactly what she wants. She is a very laid back, relaxed person.
“On stage she loves the corsets and the structure and is really into that pant and bustier look, but I think her bridal look will be the opposite. I reckon she will go minimalistic and boho.
“She might have a beautiful sleeve. She has a beautiful long neck and loves her back so maybe a low back.
“Something bias cut, a little bit floaty. An element of bridal with a boho charm to it.”
Designer Antoinette Fusillo, who has dressed Goodrem multiple times envisages
“Designing a wedding ensemble for the exquisite Delta Goodrem would be a privilege, blending elegance with a contemporary twist,” she said.
“My creative touch would introduce nuances of edginess and exaggeration, striking a harmonious equilibrium between the robust and the delicate, a testament to the art of high-end fashion. I also see her seamlessly transitioning into a party dress that’s playful, flirtatious, and mirrors Delta’s vivacity.”
Apostolopoulos, who has designed dresses for Sophie Monk, Ricki Lee Coulter and Roxy Jacenko, added that: “This will be one of the most exciting weddings to take place in Australia.
“I have seen her and Matt together, and they way they are, and I just knew they would always be together forever.”
