RECORD audience numbers tuned in to the first episode of Foxtel’s highly anticipated Top of the Lake: China Girl.

With the first episode of the season airing on Sunday night, the show pulled 130,700 viewers making it the highest rating broadcast ever on BBC First.

These numbers, which do not include all streaming figures, make it the second most watched show on Foxtel this year after Game of Thrones.

Tim Christlieb from BBC said it was a credit to the amazing team behind the show.

“It’s fantastic to see audiences embrace this local drama,” Christlieb said.
