Walking in a fashion parade might look glamorous to onlookers, but former Australia’s Next Top Model contestant Simone Holtznagel says the reality is, it’s a slog.
The Guess model, who moved to LA after the death of her close friend Charlotte Dawson, said while storming the runway in designer wares looks decorous, it’s often far from it.
“Do you know how long these models have been here for,” Holtznagel said from the Alice McCall show yesterday morning.
“They have been here since 5am, only to walk out on the runway for two minutes.
“You come out for two minutes, but if your show is at 10am, you spend all morning getting ready, you are nervous as hell back stage, then you come out for two minutes and then you are done. It is a pain for just two minutes of fun.”

Holtznagel is currently in the country to renew her working visa.
And while a massive fan of McCall and her clothing, said it’s unfortunate her big bust doesn’t squeeze into McCall’s ethereal threads.
“I am such a massive fan of Alice McCall and this show will be absolutely beautiful, but it’s a shame my boobs don’t fit into any of her clothes.”
McCall is one of Australia’s most enduring designers and she’s not going anywhere, any time soon.
Despite watching a plethora of designers come and go throughout her 15 years in business, McCall, who is known for her ethereal, high-camp and rock n’ roll gypsy designs, said she plans on being around for a long time.
“I love what I do and plan on doing it forever,” McCall told Confidential post show.
“I am happy, I am really happy. It is a funny feeling.
“I put the same amount of energy in and have the same passion as I did on day one. I have a strong team around me and businesses still growing, 15 years on.”
McCall said the key to longevity is knowing who you are as a brand and not following trends.
“It is about having your own DNA and your own standpoint, which is hard,” she said.
“And a really firm foundation business structure.
“It is a competitive market and it has gotten more competitive. Which makes it more important to have a unique standpoint.”
As for her role in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, McCall said it’s been a brilliant platform in getting her designs seen on a global platform and has resulted in new stockists in the USA and Asia.
“I have 15 stores in Australia and a lot of international growth still and I am still as driven as ever,” she said.
“Our second biggest market to Australia is the US and then followed by China, so definitely those two markets are a key focus for growth for the brand.”
“MBFWA is a fantastic way to showcase the collection..Whether we are showing in Sydney to New York, we still get the same sort of exposure, so it is wonderful and it definitely creates sales.”
