The Kid Laroi has all but confirmed his budding relationship with Canadian pop princess Tate McRae.
Speaking on Nova 96.9’s Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie on Wednesday, the Australian star said he is “the happiest he’s ever been.”
The Kid Laroi, whose real name is Charlton Kenneth Jeffrey Howard, will release documentary Kids Are Growing Up on Friday, charting his rise from Redfern teenager to global superstar.
Directed and produced by fellow Grammy Award nominee, Michael D. Ratner, the film chronicles The Kid Laroi’s life as he enters adulthood, navigates the pressures of rapid fame, struggles with mental health, first love, and the tragic death of his mentor — the late Juice WRLD.
“Is that Tate McRae is she jumping in the car now, or is she not with you today?” Wippa teased the young singer.
“You guys are crazy,” Laroi responded as the three radio hosts burst into laughter.
Last week, the Stay singer waltzed out of Michael Rubin’s Fanatics party holding hands with hitmaking McRae.
This is the second time the pop star pair have been photographed holding hands in as many weeks, after the 20-year-olds were pictured leaving Scotiabank Arena in Canada together after
McRae’s NHL All-Star game halftime performance.
The Greedy singer was one of four celebrity captains named for the NHL All-Star Game, along with fellow Canadians and Grammy-winning artists Justin Bieber and Michael Bublé.
Bieber, who collaborated with Laroi on mega-hit Stay, then posted a selfie with his wife Hailey Bieber, as well as MacRae and Laroi captioned: “Cutenesssssssssssss”.
“LOOK AT USSSSSSSSS,” Laroi commented in his signature all caps.
“awwwwww,” McRae wrote back.
“Can we just ask, are you happy at the moment?” Fitzy redirected.
“…. I’m very happy. I’m most definitely happy. I’m actually the happiest I’ve been. Maybe ever,” Laroi said.
“That’s love!” Wippa exclaimed, to which the singer gave thanks: “Thank you, guys, I appreciate you guys supporting me.”
It’s the closest either musician has come to confirming their romance, which is understood to have begun when they shared a trip to Mexico with friends in January.
McRae and the 20-year-old Aussie were then photographed leaving a dinner at restaurant Giorgio Baldi together in Los Angeles. Those photos prompted KIIS FM’s Cooper Johns to inquire about McRae’s relationship status at the end of January.
“Single? … Yeah, I’m single right now,” she said.
McRae’s second studio album, Think Later, is understood to have been inspired by her August 2023 break-up. Meanwhile Laroi, who split up with glamour model Katarina Deme around the same, released break up album The First Time.
