THE next series of The Block has started filming this week and one of the hopefuls is a familiar face.
In what looks like a trend for 2017, the reality series has enlisted Aussie model Elyse Knowles as a celebrity contender, Confidential understands.
It comes less than a week after Channel 10 revealed it was turning to pop star Sophie Monk as the next Bachelorette.
The network hopes the selection of Knowles and her partner Josh Barker will be a boost for ratings in the heated reality TV market.
Model Knowles has steadily built her fame on Instagram, documenting her modelling jobs around Australia.
While expected to be a hit with the audience, Knowles and her boyfriend may ruffle feathers with their fellow contestants, with Confidential’s sources indicating they could be given special treatment.
It is understood Knowles and Barker will not be holed up with the other contestants for the full two months of filming at the Melbourne job site.
This would be a first for the competition.
Early details of the show’s 13th season have it being played out on vacant block of land on which old houses have been moved in.
After several seasons of renovations in apartment blocks, the move takes the show back to its early days when historic Melbourne terrace houses were the backdrop for the contest.
On the back of the show’s Logie win on Sunday, Host Scott Cam revealed some of the details of the new season to Confidential.
“There could have been 50 town houses on this block, so the residents I think are well behind us,” he said.
“Because we are putting five homes there.”
Knowles has forged a career for herself, as one of the first to make it through with a strong social media following — she has 616,000 Instagram followers.
Officially Channel 9 have a ‘no comment’ policy when it comes to cast rumours.
Knowles is not the first personality to try their hand on The Block.
Three years ago AFL star Darren Jolly and his wife Dee were contestants, taking on the show for two seasons back to back.
After their first round where they failed to make big bucks, the Jollys returned to take out the competition.
