Oprah Winfrey has provided a surprise boost to a Sydney business, buying products from the brand and sharing her love for it to her millions of followers on social media.

It is the ultimate endorsement – Oprah Winfrey spruiking one of your products.

Sydney sustainable accessories brand Beysis scored the honour of an Oprah mention with the American media mogul taking to oprahdaily.com to declare her love of the brand’s water bottles.

“Here’s what I love so much … I was looking for the perfect water bottle,” Winfrey said.

“I love the smoothness of this one when you pull it out of your bag, and the most important (thing) is having everyone’s name on their water bottle.”

She subsequently shared the product, tagging the brand as well, on her personal Instagram that has 21.4 million followers.

In Sydney, the company has received a 1200 per cent increase in sales and a nearly 5000 per cent increase in traffic to its website thanks to Winfrey’s endorsement.

“We can’t believe Oprah is a Beysis customer,” co-founder Ariana Hendry said.

“Overnight she posted about our insulated water bottles on her personal account and tagged us. We woke this morning to an avalanche of orders from the US. As a child growing up in the 80s, I watched Oprah’s talk show religiously.

“She was the embodiment of female empowerment and shaped my perception of what it meant to be a successful woman in a male dominated industry. So to have an endorsement from her means more than words can say.”

Fabulously, the whole thing happened organically.

Winfrey’s team ordered a bunch of bottles for her close friend director Ava DuVernay’s 50th birthday celebrations in Hawaii.

When the order came through, the Aussie brand had no idea who it was for and the items were paid for in full.

Celebrities often accept freebies, and subsequently share them to social media but often without credit.

It is also a booming business where celebrities and influencers are paid to endorse products.

The Kardashians meanwhile are said to earn millions for their brand endorsements.

Beysis was founded by sisters Anthea and Ariana Hendry, and friend Jessica Bryce in September 2019.

The brand sells everything from personalised phone cases to perfume atomisers, compact mirrors and reusable bags.

“We knew something was up because we just had an influx of US orders,” Ariana Hendry told Confidential.

“One of our stockists in the US congratulated us after seeing a video from Oprah and placed another order. That is where we first found out Oprah was involved and it all spiralled from there.”
