AUSTRALIA’S newest world champion Tyler Wright might be queen of the waves but surfer Sally Fitzgibbons is definitely chairman of the board.
The world of surfing and business are colliding for Fitzgibbons International over the next week as the young entrepreneur swaps her bikini for the boardroom for three major events.
The popular pro surfer is the brainchild behind last Friday’s women’s surfing gala at Manly where the eight women who have won world titles for Australia were honoured.
She and her company, Fitzgibbons International, are also organising the newest sporting event in Australia, the Sydney International Pro women’s surfing tournament, the centrepiece of this week’s International Beach Festival at Cronulla Beach.
“Busy, busy, crazy, crazy times. I’m loving it” said Fitzgibbons, who also has a new fitness app, Train like Sally.
“It’s been my dream to have events like this and to see them come together like this is so exciting.’’
Flying solo with fiancee Trent Merrin on the current Kangaroos Tour, Fitzgibbons plans to host all three events and also surf in the Sydney International Pro.
The Sydney International Pro is a world qualifying event with around 100 of the best and brightest female surfers in the world heading to Cronulla to compete from November 3-6.
The International Beach Festival has numerous sporting and social events open to the public, including a run and ocean swim, cinema and yoga classes.
“I want this event and the beach festival to be the curtain-raiser to summer from here on,’’ Fitzgibbons said.
