Superstar DJ Zedd has revealed himself as a not-so-secret Silverchair fan. In Sydney supporting Katy Perry on her national tour, the Russian-born German muso told Confidential he has long been a fan of the Australian band.
In fact, he named his teenage band Dioramic after Silverchair’s 2002 album Diorama.
“I have been a huge fan of Silverchair since forever,” Zedd told Confidential. “Diorama still to this day is probably one of the best albums of all time to me.”
Zedd, whose real name is Anton Zaslavski, is arguably one of the world’s top producer DJs of the moment.
He has smashed the charts with hit after hit, including The Middle with Maren Morris and Grey, Get Low with Liam Payne, True Colors with Kesha, Aloe Blacc’s Candyman, Clarity with Foxes and Stay with Alessia Cara.

Silverchair was his main early influence. “There is a lot of incredible music from Australian artists,” he said.
“I have actually tried to work with Daniel Johns on two songs, it is just the songs didn’t really make sense for us to collaborate on and I wouldn’t want to collaborate with one of my biggest heroes on a song that doesn’t quite work, it has to be the perfect song.

“There is only going to be one first time for us to work together. I am still hoping that one day that will happen.”
The pair have never met, working together on those two tracks online from different parts of the world.
The Grammy Award-winner said his new song Happy Now references Silverchair, although he’s not sure which song specifically.
“Daniel Johns is so incredibly talented,” Zedd said. “I don’t know how nerdy I am supposed to go but there is a chord in Happy Now in the second verse where she says ‘Don’t you dare ask me how I’ve been’ and that chord is like literally one to one inspired by Silverchair.
“I don’t know which song it is or where they have a chord progression like that, but I think a lot of my songs would be very different if I didn’t listen to Silverchair. Daniel Johns is a genius.”
Zedd is planning a headline tour of Australia over the coming months and will play a solo sideshow at Marquee tomorrow night.
“I am hoping I can come back and not wait another five years like I did between visits this time,” he said.
