THERE were runway trips, nervous speeches, slight wardrobe malfunctions and lots of sparkles when the NSW finalists for Miss World Australia were crowned at Sydney’s Doltone House.
The world’s largest beauty contest, which also raises money for children’s charity Variety, featured 25 NSW contestants vying for a place at Australia’s Crowning Ceremony on July 24 in Melbourne.
In the end judges, who included MKR’s David and Betty and Miss World director Deborah Miller, picked country music fan Lavinia White, fitness fanatic Eliza Gray, model and zoology student Alexandra Wallace, university student and part-time legal secretary Alison Mitchell and actor Kadee Hollis.
Miller said “you can’t just be pretty” and picked girls on their confidence and charisma.
This was just what Hollis showed off after her slight trip on the runway.
“Life is about making mistakes,” she said.
“It’s how you recover that’s important.”
Wallace said it was nice to see the stereotype of models and pageant girls being broken.
“Everyone thinks we’re not the brightest but today I’ve met lawyers and business women. It’s incredible!”
MKR contestant David Vu said it was good to be on the other side of the judging table and that he particularly liked the entrants who mentioned food in their answers.
Former Miss World winners include Baywatch Star Priyanka Chopra.
