WHEN Miss World hopeful Lavinia White struts her stuff at the New South Wales state final tomorrow, she’ll be relying on the expertise of a queen.
“My mum won Queen of Nations, so helps me while I do catwalk prep — she’s basically my mentor. She asks me questions about current affairs,” laughed White, a 22-year-old model from Bellevue Hill.
The aspiring pageant queen, who has a degree in arts, said that she would learn from last year’s experience to have a second tilt at the crown.
“I learnt to be more confident and self-assured,” the 22-year-old said.
“It’s doing a really good thing, Miss World. I learnt not to be embarrassed that I’m trying, fear of failing gets in the way.”
White will take on 24 other hopefuls to go through to the national final, including Cassandra Wood and Luca Kronenberg, from Paddington.
Wood, a 22-year-old commerce student from Avalon, said that while she thought she had a good chance of taking the crown she had “no idea” how to prepare.
“I didn’t know what to expect in terms of how to prepare, but I watched the news and learnt more general knowledge,” the part-time rugby player explained.
She also is an actor on Home and Away, playing a surfer and student.
The event at Doltone House, Sydney, will be judged by Deborah Miller, director of Miss World Australia, Madeline Cowe, Miss World Australia 2016, Ineke Kissing of Ozwear UGG and David and Betty, who were runners-up in My Kitchen Rules.
The winner will go forward to the Miss World Australia National Final on July 14.
