Hollywood star Chris Hemsworth is doing his bit for the Aussie music industry after a tough couple of years.
The actor has joined singer Jessica Mauboy in fronting this year’s Ausmusic T-Shirt Day campaign that raises much needed funds for music industry charity, Support Act.
“On Friday Nov 18, show me who you love and wear your favourite Aussie Artist T-shirt and donate to @supportact,” Hemsworth said, wearing a Teskey Brothers T-shirt in the campaign. “Let’s all get behind this great cause for the Australian Music Industry!! Show your support and wear it!! #ausmusictshirtday.”
Other big names supporting the annual initiative include Kylie Minogue, Darren Hayes, Casey Donovan, John Williamson, Urthboy, Ella Hooper, Mitch Tambo, Montaigne, Dave Gleeson and James Reyne.
Ausmusic T-Shirt Day asks music lovers to show their support of the industry by wearing a T-shirt of a local artist and donating to Support Act, a charity that raises funds for musicians, managers, crew and music workers through crisis relief, mental health and wellbeing programs and is headed by CEO Clive Miller.
Hemsworth’s choice of wearing a Teskey Brothers T-shirt dates back to the Byron Bay Bluesfest in 2018, when he and actor mate Matt Damon caught their set at the festival.
The blues rock group’s Josh Teskey said: “Chris has always been a great supporter of us and of the Australian music industry. Chris has great taste in music so it is no surprise he discovered The Teskey Brothers.
“We first met at Bluesfest in 2018 when he popped his head into our band room with his mate Matt Damon. We later discovered we had a family connection as my mum Jennie was the midwife at Liam’s birth.”
Jess Tarpey, of Mushroom Creative House, the team creating the campaign, said it was more important now than ever to support the local music industry and musicians themselves.
“Following the last few tricky years, it has never been more important to support the health and welfare of workers in the music industry,” Tarpey said.
Meanwhile, Hemsworth is clearly enjoying his downtime after wrapping filming on Mad Max Furiosa.
The Marvel action star, 39, was spotted preparing for a morning surf in his hometown Byron Bay.
After four months of filming, the father of three looked relaxed as he did some stretches and unloaded an Al Merrick Twin Fin surfboard out of the back of a ute.
He and a surfer mate walked down to the water and zipped out their wetsuits to catch some waves.
Byron is well-known as Hemsworth’s favourite surf spot.
He is often seen down at the beach, either solo, or out with his daughter India, 9, and twin boys Sasha and Tristan, 8.
The sighting comes after Hemsworth’s plans to build a second home on a sprawling 35-hectare site in Byron Bay were approved.
He and wife Elsa Pataky were given the green light in August to build a celebrity guesthouse, just a kilometre away from their existing $30 million mega-mansion.
