Radio king Ben Fordham has revealed a shock side hustle.
As Australians struggle to deal with the cost of living crisis, many taking on second jobs to survive, the 2GB breakfast host has secured his Uber driving credentials.
“Mate I am an Uber driver,” Fordham said when asked if it was just a gimmick.
“I am a huge user of Uber and in the years ahead my kids will be out late with their friends so I might as well make a buck instead of sitting around waiting to pick them up.”
Fordham continued: “I will admit I had consumed a couple of spicy margaritas over lunch when I came up with the idea. I mentioned it on air one day and I have a thing that if I say something, I will follow through so I did all of the paperwork and now I am official.”
Fordham, 46, is proud to note he scored a five star rating from his first paying passenger, a woman named Wen, who also tipped him $3.
The father of three accepted the job near 2GB’s Pyrmont headquarters, which is in the same building as Nova Entertainment.
Video of Fordham behind the wheel shows Nova breakfast co-host Kate Ritchie ribbing him jokingly.
“I thought your ratings were good,” Ritchie said.
“Why are you doing this?”
It isn’t the only side job for Fordham, who has been known to help out at his friends pizza shop, Giovanni’s in Cammeray, on a Friday night.
“I think Kate Ritchie should sign up to become an Uber driver too,” he said.
“I think I will find a few good stories along the way, which I will be able to share on radio.”
