Sam Reid’s made it big in Hollywood but prefers to work close to family
He’s starred in big-budget Hollywood movies with stars like Johnny Depp and Robert Pattinson, but Australian actor Sam Reid prefers to work close to home and his family.
He’s worked with some of the biggest stars in Hollywood but Aussie actor Sam Reid says he is happiest working at home.
The 32-year-old will be seen in new Foxtel TV drama Lambs Of God alongside revered performers Essie Davis, Ann Dowd and Jessica Barden.
The Gothic show about three nuns on a secluded island — based on the novel by Marele Day — was filmed in the Blue Mountains, and Reid said the comfort of home was more attractive than the glamour of Hollywood.
Although he’s an Aussie, Reid has spent most of his working life abroad, studying in the UK before landing roles in TV and film internationally.

“I’ve been on and off in Los Angeles for some years, but the most exciting work for me is at home, and to work from home while being close to family is my dream,” Reid told Confidential.
“I have lived overseas since I was 20. But, I came home towards the end of 2017 and luckily I have had enough work to stay.”
Reid, who grew up on a farm in rural NSW with his actor brother Rupert and producer sister Kali, has just wrapped up filming with Johnny Depp and Robert Pattinson for the film Waiting For The Barbarians, and with Asher Keddie for SBS’s four-part series The Hunting.
“I guess I’m always attracted to drama and darker characters,” he said.
“I’ve just finished The Hunting for SBS, which is a beautiful dark and heavy story.”
In Lambs Of God, Reid plays the ambitious and enigmatic young priest Father Ignatius.
“It was tough as he does go through some pretty extreme physical ailments and he has quite a big character arch,” Reid said.
“I did come out with a few cuts and bruises but it did give me less time in the makeup chair.”
Lambs Of God premieres on the Fox Showcase channel on July 21
