The ex-boyfriend of former Home And Away star Sam Frost has explained the reason for the couple’s split.

Melbourne drummer and personal trainer Jay Bruno said he and 32-year-old Frost “just didn’t work”.

“It is never easy to stay friends with someone you dated and I broke up with her so I think it would be unfair for me to hover around and confuse her,” Bruno told Confidential. “I have kept my distance. It is obviously hard because you feel for the other person but people just break up sometimes and I didn’t want to lead her on so I have moved on.”

Bruno and Frost, who before acting rose to fame on The Bachelor franchise first as a contestant and then as the lead, were together for several months last year.

“It is pretty simple, I just guess I couldn’t see a future with her,” Bruno explained.

Bruno, 34, is a contestant on the new season of Survivor Australia: Blood vs Water that will premiere on Channel 10 next Monday (January 31). He is competing against, and alongside his ex’s younger brother, Alex Frost.

“Blood v Water, I had to have someone that was close to family and at the time he was,” Bruno explained of teaming up with Frost, adding that they are “definitely” still mates.

“It did add an exciting element (being there together) as we didn’t know what was going to happen. It made it a bit more surprising and fun.”

Melbourne-based Bruno previously appeared on Seven reality show Instant Hotel with another ex, model Leah Johnsen.

He is in a new relationship with model, influencer and pilates instructor Ellyn McCartney.

“I am dating someone,” he said. “She is probably the only girl I’ve met that is funnier than me so well done to her.”
