Brace yourselves, it is going to be getting busy.
After a sleepy summer on the box, the official TV ratings years is about to kick off with all the major networks to roll out their heavy hitters in a bid to secure a flying start to 2022.
Channel 7s The Voice Generations will be the one to beat with coaches Guy Sebastian, Rita Ora, Jessica Mauboy and Keith Urban launching the world first spin-off format on Monday January 31.
The official ratings year starts on February 6 with the three major commercial networks pushing ahead a week early in a bid to cement audiences.
It will go head to head against two other established formats in Survivor Australia: Blood v Water on Ten and controversial dating show Married At First Sight on Nine.
Seven finished 2021 as the leader of the pack, snatching the title of Australia’s number one television network from Nine that had the mantle for two years running.
The Voice was a major drawcard for Seven last year, with the network reinvigorating the format after it had run its course on Nine.
The new coaching panel injected fresh energy and prompted Seven to launch the spin-off Generations, where families, neighbours and friends compete on the reality singing stage.
A full season of The Voice will follow later in the year.
“I’m excited about getting on set and just having some fun connecting with the generations on the show,” Urban said.
“What an absolute trip it would be to get up on stage and perform – to show Australia the musical bonds families can share. I’m looking forward to being a part of the special memories these generations will be making on the show.”
Brit pop star Ora was equally as pumped to be back on air.
“I’m excited to hear some amazing performances,” she said. “I love the idea of different generations coming together to make music; it’s such a beautiful thing.”
The Winter Olympics from Beijing will immediately follow The Voice Generations with Seven banking on strong ratings there. It also has Dancing With The Stars All Stars, SAS Australia, Farmer Wants A Wife and Big Brother on its slate.
On Nine, the big shows to watch out for this year are Underbelly Vanishing Act, After The Verdict and Lego Masters while Ten has the Bachelor franchise, MasterChef, The Masked Singer and new formats, Would I Lie To You, hosted by Chrissie Swan, and Hunted.
