Sydney Confidential can announce the Gold Logie-winning presenter will host a studio-based series — Show Me The Movie! — on Channel 10.

From the producer of popular ABC show Spicks and Specks, the show will feature two competing teams captained by Offspring actor Jane Harber and comedy star Joel Creasey, who will be tested on their movie knowledge.

The show marks McManus’s return to Channel 10 after ending his successful Rove: Live talk show in 2009. Unlike other projects, he will not be producing this show.

“It doesn’t feel I’ve been away that long,” McManus said, adding that he hoped the show would be the start of more TV hosting projects.

“I know what I’m up to but I guess my wife Tasma is ready for me to get back to proper work,” he said.

“It’s been fun to be part of other people’s shows, like The Project, but it’s nice to be back in the driver’s seat. It’s what I love doing — being in a TV studio, in front of an audience. It feels like home.”

The show comes after his failed breakfast radio program with Sam Frost on 2DayFM ended in 2016: “I’ve been enjoying sleeping in, although I have a four-year-old who is up at 7am.”

Rove joked the new role would give him another excuse to brag that he was the voice of a crab in Finding Nemo: “It won an Oscar. That never gets old.”
