Hollywood actor Rebel Wilson has slammed Sydney’s two-week lockdown.
Last week, New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced stay-at-home orders for the whole of Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains, the Central Coast, and Wollongong after a rise in Covid-19 cases and Wilson said constant lockdowns are not an ideal strategy.
“Sydney WTF … You can’t keep locking down as a strategy,” Wilson wrote on Instagram.
The Bridesmaids star also shared a photo that her mother Sue took of the panic buying at a local Woolworths.
Wilson was born in Sydney, where her family is based, but lives in the US.
On Sunday, NSW recorded 30 new cases of Covid-19 and Ms Berejiklian defended her 14-day lockdown decision.
“I have never cared about what people think about me but I care about keeping people safe and not putting burdens on them unless we absolutely have to,” Berejiklian said at a press conference.
“Yesterday we had no other alternative that is a decision we take to keep our community safe but also during the course of the next few days and weeks, make sure we provide as much information as possible and as much certainty as possible.
“We know when people are thinking about jobs, work, personal circumstances, they want as much certainty as possible and that is what we intend to provide.
“Can I say very, very confidently and strongly that any success NSW has had to date is because our government has to the letter followed the health advice. You do not have to take my word for it, you can ask the health experts.”
