The Gold Dinner raised a record breaking $84.3 million for sick kids in Sydney last night.
Hosted by the hospital foundation’s boss and ex-NSW premier Kristina Keneally, the exclusive, invite-only, $3,500 a ticket charity event, dubbed Australia’s answer to the Met Gala, doubled what the Met Gala raised this year, achieving a staggering $84.3 million result.
Among the moneyed crowd which helped raise the amount was the top end of town plus a smattering of well known names including Pratt heiress, Paula Pratt, Scot Richard Roxborough, socialites Bernadette and Jordan Sukkar children’s entertainer, Emma Watkins and committee members Joshua and Linda Penn, Alina Barlow, Rossana Bellina Voss, Katie Evans, Benita Kam and Bernadette Nassif.
In 2022, the event raised $9 million, followed by $19.2 million in 2023, and $33.4 million in 2024.
Gold Dinner is by far the largest children’s hospital foundation gala in the world, nothing else comes close,” SCHF chief executive and former NSW Premier Kristina Keneally said.
“Indeed last year we beat the Met Gala (in New York) fundraising amount but to me, it is not just about the numbers or the dollars, it is about the impact we are able to create and when you consider that because of tonight, kids with rare diseases will get faster diagnosis, kids with cancer will get personalised and precision medicine and families facing unimaginable loss will get the care and comfort they need, it is extraordinary that people are so willing to give to help sick kids.”
Miranda Kerr is a global ambassador for the charity.
The Gold committee works year round to prepare for the annual event.
Some 400 guests were expected to attend the exclusive event, where tickets cost $3500.
