Meet the twins being dubbed Australia’s next potential Hemsworths.
Nicholas and Brodie Chong, 26, have made history as the first twins ever accepted into the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) – and they’re each other’s biggest supporters.
“If one gets the job and one doesn’t, it sucks,” Nicholas told Confidential.
“But we are so supportive of each other.”
Brodie agrees the shared experience is special. “It’s just the greatest blessing … a dream come true.”
While competition sometimes stings, he says, “We always come back to being happy for each other.”
Originally from Cairns and later based in Brisbane, the brothers had their hearts set on acting school for years.
“It has always been a goal,” said Nick. “We tried three times over four years. It was amazing to finally get the call.”
Their journey back into acting began with a love for drama in school, but they initially put it aside in pursuit of “real” jobs — until they decided to give their passion another shot.
“I’m so glad we never gave up because here we are,” Brodie said
Living and studying together has been both rewarding and intense. “We’ve got different jobs now, we needed some healthy distance,” Nick said. “But it’s been amazing to have each other.”
Their twin dynamic has drawn comparisons to famous duos like the Hemsworths and twin actors Max and Charlie Carver from The Batman.
“We have been compared to the Hemsworth brothers a couple of times,” Nicholas said.
“We take it as a compliment.”
And amid the pressure of acting school, the brothers prioritise mental health. “We take care of each other,” Nick said. “We always check in, walk home, debrief – it’s been really good.”
NIDA is renowned for producing Hollywood heavyweights like Sarah Snook, Baz Luhrmann, Cate Blanchett, Catherine Martin, and Mel Gibson and there open day coming up on June 14.
