An Aussie model has lifted the lid on the celebrity dating app Raya.
Once touted as an “exclusive” network reserved for the rich and famous, Raya has recently been infiltrated by Z-listers, raising questions about its vetting process.
Since launching in 2015, Raya has been the go-to dating app for A-list stars including Hollywood actors Matthew Perry and Ben Affleck.
But in recent months influencers and the like have been gaining access and OnlyFans model Phoebe Thompson has revealed why.
The former Love Island contestant claims it’s all about who you know.
“It is pretty much meant to be an exclusive dating app, I think it was originally designed for like models, celebrities, sports people, whatever — it’s pretty pretentious,” she said on Instagram.
“I really honestly don’t know how you get on it. I don’t know if you need a blue tick, yes I’ve got a blue tick but I’ve got other friends who have blue ticks and are still on the waiting list to get on there.
“I also have friends that have just known someone that has worked for Raya and they’ve been able to have an account with them.”
Confidential has contacted Raya for comment.
Users must request access via the app and are then usually placed on a waiting list.
But Thompson, 28, said the app was overrated.
“Raya is seriously the most annoying app because you just match with people that are like in (Los Angeles), London, Dubai and we’re in the middle of a pandemic and you can’t travel so annoying,” she said.
“It’s really not that exciting, yes there are A-list celebrities on there, you match with people all over the world but it’s pretty much the same s*** as any other dating app.”
In May, American TikTok influencer Kate Haralson was banned from Raya after revealing she matched with Perry, 51, when she was 19 while also sharing their private video chat.
“It kind of felt weird talking to someone my dad’s age and it just felt not right, especially when he knew how young I was,” Haralson told the New York Post.
That same month, another women, Nivine Jay, revealed she was pursued by Ben Affleck after unmatching him on the app. She also posted his private video messages.
“Thinking of the time I matched with Ben Affleck on Raya and thought it was fake so I unmatched him and he sent me a video on Instagram,” Jay wrote.
In a video message Jay posted, Affleck could be seen staring directly into the camera saying, “Nivine, why did you unmatch me? It’s me”.
