Mother-of-two Laura Byrne has clapped back at a follower who criticised the former Bachelor star for bottle feeding her two-year-old.
Bryne was forced to defend herself after sharing an image of her two-year-old daughter, Marlie-Mae drinking from a milk bottle.
When contacted, the partner of Bachelor star Matthew Johnson said: “Mummy shaming is nothing new, but with social media it allows people to give their unwelcome opinions to literal strangers. You wouldn’t walk up to a mum in a cafe and say, ‘hey your kid is too old for a dummy’ so why does the anonymity of being behind a computer change the way some people perceive giving ‘advice’.”
Byrne is also mum to four-month-old daughter Lola. The ToniMay jewellery designer is prolific on social media, regularly sharing happy snaps and updates of family and work life.
Her comments came after a follower messaged her directly on Instagram, telling her she was “holding her back” in relation to her daughter drinking from a bottle.
“Why would you post this?” the person wrote. “She is way too old for a bottle.”
Byrne shared the exchange to her more than 300,000 followers in an Insta story but blacked out the person’s name to protect their privacy.
“She is 2. She is happy, healthy, loved, says more than 200 words and is almost potty trained,” Byrne wrote in response.
“I could not give a single crap if she uses a dummy and still likes to have a bottle on occasion. Don’t be so quick to judge people you don’t know.”
Speaking to Confidential about the ugly exchange, Byrne said all parents have different styles raising their children.
“But for the most part we all want the very best for our children and love them unconditionally,” she said. “Does it matter if Marlie is still having a dummy and a bottle at two? No and quite frankly, who the hell cares? Marlie is loved, she is healthy, she is happy and I’d much rather pick my battles and focus on the things that really matter.”
Byrne and Johnson met and fell in love when he was the Bachelor and she was a contestant on the 2017 season of the reality dating show.
