WHILE fans of Australian Ninja Warrior accused host Rebecca Maddern of jinxing the talent on last year’s season of the hit Channel 9 show, they have it all wrong she told Confidential.

Fans branded Maddern’s commentary the “Curse of Rebecca Maddern”, saying she continuously jinxed contestants by talking up their chances, only to see them crash out of the course seconds later.

However viewers were wrong to assume contestants could hear her commentary, Maddern told Confidential.

“They couldn’t even hear me,” Maddern said.

“I just call the action as I see it, but the competitors can’t hear me. I am not on a loud speaker, so what happens is up to them.”

Maddern who had the best excuse possible to not test out the obstacle course while filming last year — she was pregnant with now 11-week-old daughter Ruby Mae Miller — promised the 2018 season which starts tonight, will “blow your mind.”

“Last year was so well received that I didn’t think we could improve on season one, but somehow we have,” she said.

“Our returning heroes have had 12 months to train, so they are in even better shape than they were before. And last year fantastic athletes were watching season one and wanted to get involved, so the calibre of competitors is even better.”
