“We were in South Central LA shooting and they were like, ‘Get inside, there’s a shooter, a live shooter,’” she said.
“I’m like, ‘What?’ I’ve got the (prop) gun and I’m out on the street and they dragged me in, and I hit the floor because there was a shooter and helicopters.”
Kidman revealed details on the shoot during a BAFTA Life in Pictures event in London.
In the film, which opens on December 25, Kidman plays an undercover LAPD cop who infiltrates a gang.
This week Kidman is expected to be in Sydney to support her husband Keith Urbanas he hosts the ARIA Awards at the Star.
The award-winning movie star who has just wrapped filming on the second season of Foxtel drama Big Little Lies will also be back in Australia as a special guest at the upcoming AACTA awards.
