FROM red carpet princess to a comic book queen — Nicole Kidman will today begin shooting Hollywood movie Aquaman on the Gold Coast.
Twenty-two years since she appeared as Professor Chase Meridian, Kidman returns to the DC Comic franchise as Queen Atlanna in the big budget film that has been shooting for several weeks and is being directed by James Wan.
“I’m excited because of James,” Kidman told The Daily Telegraph, walking the red carpets at the Sydney Opera House for the Australian premiere of Foxtel’s Top Of The Lake.
“It is so great to see an Aussie director take on such huge mega films. He really is the wonder kid right.”
Kidman, who recently celebrated her 50th birthday, wore Zuhair Murad dress and Jimmy Choo shoes.
“I feel like a princess,” she said.
Top Of The Lake will premiere on Foxtel’s BBC First channel on August 20.
Directed by Jane Campion, it was shot in Sydney and also stars Elisabeth Moss and Gwendoline Christie.
“I’ve been fortunate recently working with such great directors,” she said.
“As an actor you’re not in the drivers seat. You’re very much moulded. And hopefully morph into each character and I was lucky to be given this.”
“I just want to be true. I want to be authentic and true to the piece and the character.”
The role of Julie required Kidman to age significantly and the actor described Campion as a “trailblazer” with whom she had absolute faith.
“She says this is how I want you to look and this is what I want and she was there through all of it,” she said.
