Niall Horan announces Australia tour dates in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane amid global tour blitz

Superstar muso Niall Horan has confirmed the dates he’ll be touring Australia, while announcing his international tour blitz. Here, he speaks with The Daily Telegraph.

Niall Horan has announced a global tour blitz with Australian shows scheduled for April next year.

The superstar singer and former member of One Direction will start his run of shows under the banner, Niall Horan The Show Live On Tour, in Brisbane on April 28.

“It is just good to be back in the midst of it all, I missed it,” Horan told The Daily Telegraph via Zoom from Los Angeles.

“It has driven me more than ever just to get back at it, to release music ... this is the exciting period. I am chomping at the bit to get back - it is a country that I’ve spent so much time in every year and I haven’t been in five, it is crazy to me so I am looking forward to getting back (to Australia).”

Horan’s first Australian show of the tour will be at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, followed by Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on May 1 and Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on the third of that month.

Overnight, he also announced shows across the US, the UK and Europe.

The announcement comes weeks out from the global release of Horan’s third solo studio album, The Show. The album has already spawned the singles, Heaven and Meltdown.

“The only good thing about the pandemic was how thought provoking it was,” he explained. “Good and bad, but that makes good writing material. It was the only time really that I’ve been able to sit still for a second and actually reflect on what had at that point been a crazy 10 years.”

The first song he wrote for the album was the title track.

“The Show kind of informed me that that is what life is, that there is many spokes to the wheel of life, whether it be the anxieties of the world or the good times, the love and all the bits that make up that wheel,” he said. “Once I had written the show, it kind of squared that circle in terms of what I was going to do next as an artist.”

Horan, you could say is somewhat of an honorary Australian. He has been a regular visitor for work and pleasure for many years, even before his time with One Direction.

Speaking to the Telegraph, he started singing John Williamson’s iconic Australian anthem, ‘True Blue’.

“If the Australians would have me, I honestly love it,” he said. “I’ve spent loads of time there. It is the only real place outside of where I have lived that I’ve spent a month or six weeks at a time there, which is a long time for me. I just love it there, it is brilliant, the people are great, the food, the drink, the coffee, the culture of it all is brilliant.”
