The wife of Hollywood hunk Chris Hemsworth has landed her first acting gig and will begin shooting new TV drama Tidelands today.

“It came at the perfect moment,” the Fast And The Furious actor, 41, told The Daily Telegraph.

“My kids have started school and I’m ready to get back to work. I’m just excited to work in this market and to be able to work in what I call home now.”

Pataky will play Adrielle Cuthbert in Netflix’s first original Australian series, a supernatural crime drama from local Brisbane production company Hoodlum Entertainment.

It will also star former Home And Away actor Charlotte Best, Aaron Jakubenko, Peter O’Brien and Mattias Inwood.

With director Toa Fraser, the cast met for the first table read of the script on Friday.

Pataky’s character is the leader of a group called the Tidelanders, half human and half water sirens, who live in a small fishing village called Orphelin Bay.

Fortunately for Pataky, she won’t need an Aussie accent.

“That was my first question,” she said. “It is very difficult. I don’t think I could do it. It is an international project so there will be lots of accents, not just mine.”

Pataky, Australian Thor-star husband Hemsworth, 34, and their three young children are based in Byron Bay.

They travel the world for different projects but spend their down time in Australia.

“I do what every mum does, try to juggle your work with the kids and being home,” she said.

“It is hard because you always feel guilty as a mum leaving the kids. With this show, it is not like you work every day. One episode you might work more than another so there will be days off and I can still spend a lot of time with them (her children).”

“At the same time, they are getting older and going to school so it is good to do something I am passionate about. I love to work. I feel really lucky having the opportunity to get back to work.”
