Former Miss Universe finalist Rachael Finch has made a full recovery eight months after she underwent breast explant surgery due to a painful rupture.
The mother-of-two, who had breast enhancement surgery at 17, went from a C-cup with implants to an A-cup without them and is now in better health.
“I’ve completely healed and I’m back to feeling 100 per cent,” she said.
“I feel really content and incredibly happy. I feel like it was the right thing to do for me and my body.
“I had some pretty bad issues leading up to it and that’s the reason why I chose to do what I did with the explant and so, for me I just feel like I’m in such a good space and I think the most important thing overarching is what I was saying all along which is just totally listen to your own body and do what’s right for you.”
Finch, 33, said that her decision to remove her implants came after she began getting pain in her left breast two years ago and noticed that both breasts looked different.
After being in and out of clinics for several months, an MRI finally revealed that she had a capsular contracture in her left breast, which can cause hardening and distortion of breast tissue.
“I do things for me based on my own body, I read and research and then I go back and ask, ‘What’s right for me’,” she said.
Finch’s health journey began several years ago after years of restrictive dieting and gruelling exercise unexpectedly stopped her menstrual cycle.
“I’ve worked really hard over the last few years getting my hormonal cycle and my gut in sync,” she said.
“I went through a period of my life where I lost my menstrual cycle for over two years when I was really strict on my diet and exercise when I was modelling.
“Only in the last three to four years have I got a normal cycle and I feel like my body is functioning at its absolute optimum but it took me years and years to figure out what was the best formula and what was the best thing for me.”
A self-described “home body”, lockdown was a convenient time for the TV presenter to rest and recover after her explant surgery.
She also used the time to work on her latest business venture — Kissed Earth vitamins for dogs — which launched last week and was inspired by her Cocker Spaniel named Simba.
“It’s 100 per cent natural, we use all whole foods, plenty of vitamins and minerals and active ingredients and ingredients that have been shown to fight disease.”
