Model Rachael Finch has had a “massive re-evaluation” of beauty standards after having her breast implants removed earlier this month due to a rupture.

The mother-of-two, who underwent breast enhancement surgery at 17, said women should not be defined by physical appearance.

“Why should we let the size of our boobs determine how confident we are, how beautiful we are, who we are as a person?” Finch said on Instagram.

“Like, this whole process has been this massive re-evaluation for me of worth and meaning and living into who you actually are versus your physical appearance and letting that define you.

“Like, it’s just been so incredible and I’m just so proud of my body and what it’s accomplished to be able to give birth to two children, breastfeed two of my angels and just live the life that it has so far.”

Finch, 32, went from a C-cup with implants to an A-cup without them and she has been documenting her journey on social media.

She said the decision to remove her implants came after she began getting pain in her left breast.

“Two years ago I woke up and noticed one was a little different to the other,” she wrote.

“I immediately went in for an MRI which the doctor told me I had a capsular contracture in my left breast - meaning the skin the body creates around the implant to protect itself has tightened.

“I was told it was fine, common and nothing needed to be done urgently. I started getting pain in my left breast which became bad and other symptoms (which I didn’t associate my implants with at the time) so decided to see other specialists to get more opinions. I’ve been in and out of clinics for months, until last week I was told my left implant was in fact ruptured - meaning there’s a hole with its contents leaking out. These results were actually on the original MRI I had 2 years ago but were read wrong to me.”

Finch is now recovering at home with the help of a surgical bra and she said she’s much happier with smaller breasts.

“That was a huge switch for me to come to terms with the fact that I will no longer have that C-cup, I’ll barely have an A-cup now,” she said.

“To be 100 per cent honest with you, I actually prefer my body now, there’s a lot of healing and scars so it will be different. I’m just grateful that the health risks have been removed.

Thank you for all of your love and support.”
