Michael Clarke needs better advice after train wreck interview

Those close to Michael Clarke are urging the former cricketer to get himself an agent after a disastrous interview this week, as the brand he was promoting seems to be distancing themselves from the one-time Australian captain.

Michael Clarke 'stitched-up' during A Current Affair interview

Michael Clarke is on the hunt for a new manager. Or at least he should be, after the PR disaster which took place on A Current Affair this week.

That’s the opinion of many in the industry who are scratching their heads as to why the former Australian cricket captain agreed to an interview with ACA to promote a bitters brand, his first TV appearance after the infamous Noosa brawl.

Despite multiple people reportedly warning Clarke against the interview with the tabloid program, he ignored their advice and said yes.

And it didn’t end well.

Of the seven minute and 20 second interview, just 46 seconds was dedicated to the promotion of the drink brand, the rest highlighting and reliving the Noosa brawl which resulted in him losing his radio contract and endorsement deals, leaving his post-cricket reputation in tatters.

“Clarkey doesn’t have an agent or publicist guiding him at the moment and you can tell,” one insider said.

“He should never have done ACA to promote a drink...he was completely stitched up.

“Perhaps he thought (Channel 9 personality) Karl (Stefanovic) would protect him but that clearly wasn’t the case.”

Michael Clarke and Karl Stefanovic in wild scuffle amid cheating claims

Clarke has had a number of high profile agents and publicists in the past including Roxy Jacenko and most recently Patrick Devlin, however Clarke is now flying solo and in recent months appears to be self-managed.

It is believed Clarke is currently without a manager or publicist and that it was he and his PA who lined up the interview with ACA directly.

While it is believed Clarke, who did not answer our calls on Saturday, is anything but pleased by the “stitch up”, so too is Australian Bitters who are yet to promote, endorse or even follow ‘Clarkey’ on their social media platforms.

Despite Clarke “hanging himself out to dry” all for a little known drink brand, while wearing a shirt with their logo emblazoned across the front, Australian Bitters seem to have gone underground following the diabolic interview.

Texts, e-mails and messages to the company from this masthead have gone unanswered since Wednesday.
